Lihue Court Townhomes

In response to a critical need for transitional housing for homeless individuals and families on Kauai, KEO initiated a transitional housing program at Lihue Court Townhomes in Lihue. Clients are provided safe, stable, temporary housing for 24 months, while they participate in case management and supportive services aimed at the breaking the cycle of homelessness and empowering individuals and families to become self-sufficient, productive members of the community. The ultimate goal of this program is to have homeless persons move from homelessness to permanent housing.

Participants for the transitional housing program are identified through KEOs Homeless and Housing programs. Those selected for participation in the program will be placed in appropriate housing and assigned to a Case Manager. Priority is given to homeless persons with disability. KEO maintains eight (8) transitional shelter units at the Lihue Court townhomes for homeless families with children.

During their participation in the program, clients pay a monthly program fee, and are required to sign a program agreement, which establishes house rules, policies and procedures for the housing units. A case manager works with the individual or family to develop a comprehensive case management plan. This plan establishes personal goals and objectives specific to the social service and employment needs of each client and sets a step-by-step action plan to accomplish those goals within the two-year term of the program. The Case manager also provides direct counseling and referrals to appropriate supportive services such as substance abuse treatment, employment training and placement, child care, health services, life skills training, and transportation.
